Candle message – Avows

You are who God says you are

Many of us may have descriptions of ourselves or an idea of who we are in this world… But where did they come from? Usually it’s a mix of different places and experiences e.g. family, friends, school teachers, work colleagues, upbringing. etc.
It is important to know who we are as that shapes how we live out our lives. I believe we are made in the image of God, so what He says about us matters a whole lot. For some of us we don’t know what God says about us and for others, even if we do know, it’s easy to forget.
The enemy is cunning and tries to make us forget who we are and what God has for us. When we know who we are, things change and we approach life differently. We need to renew our mind with the truth, so that we start to believe it. Like when you hear something enough times, you start to believe it and a change begins to happens.
There is so much to telling us the wrong things about ourselves and that’s why I decided to create a resource to help remind you of how God sees you.

God knows every detail about you (flaws and all) and He still loves you. The best part, absolutely nothing can separate you from His love. One way He showed His love for you, is through giving His only son, for the chance that we might choose him and live eternally.

John 3:16

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

God loves us so much that He was willing to give up His son which would allow us to have eternal life if we choose Him.

Romans 8:37-39

No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

There is absolutely nothing that can separate us from the love that God has for us. God has factored in any wrong doings we have done in the past, bad habits we have, character flaws, failures and He loves us anyway. There is nothing spiritual that can stop the love God has towards us. How comforting to know.

You are held in high regard and considered dear to God. You have no reason to feel worthless when the creator of this world looks at you with so much love and value. He made you with no mistakes and was willing to give up His only son just for you.

Matt 10:31

So don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.

Jesus was talking to and warning his 12 closest followers – He was sending them out to share a message with people who may not respect them. Jesus was letting them know that they are cared for. In a previous verse it talks about Sparrows being sold very cheap – they were not valued at the time yet not one of them would even fall without God’s care. It was a reminder that the disciples are even more valuable than sparrows – they are cherished.

Psalm 139:14

I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.

These were lyrics in a song written by King David. He was giving glory to God for how he was created. Before this verse he talks about how intimately God knows him and how God is always with him. God designed you with intent and made you to be wonderful with no mistakes..

God truly wants to be with you and have a relationship with you and because of this He pursues you. He will never leave you even when it feels like He’s not there.

Luke 15:9

I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent

Jesus was telling a parable of a Shepherd who has 100 sheep but looses one of them. He keeps the 99 safe and goes looking for the one that is lost. He eventually finds the lost one and is so happy that he calls all of his neighbours and friends to celebrate. In the same way God pursues us to be with us and when that happens there is so much celebration.

Ezekiel 34:11

For this is what the Sovereign Lord says: I myself will search for my sheep and look after them.

God was talking to one of His ‘prophets’ and was letting him know that He was coming to His people to rescue them and care for them. This was at a time where there was a lot of injustice happening with people abusing the power they had.
